The natural region 'Hanoi' consists of two topographical features
- Plains = This was created by the deposition of alluvium from the Delta. It is located in the old parts of Hanoi and in the eastern districts. The plains cover around 3/4 of Hanoi. The area is located on the right bank of the Black River and two tributaries of the Red River.
- Hills = Which are also classified as mountains. They are located mostly in the Soc Son District, Ba Vi District, Quoc Oai District and the My Duc District. A few of the high peaks are: Mount Boc 245 meters and Chan Chim 462 meters. This area stretches towards the Delta and is 7-10 meters above sea level. This is why the topography is inclined from the North-South.
